Port Douglas · Far North Queensland

Australia's most gloriously wrong night out.
"A riot of FNQ wrongfulness for the whole family" — amphibian debauchery at its finest, hosted by the legendary MC Nicky G.

The Origin Story

The Unwanted Pest Becomes the Main Event

They arrived in 1935 to eat beetles. They ate everything else instead. For nine decades Australia has been locked in mortal combat with the cane toad — and losing, magnificently.

So why not race them?

"If you can't beat 'em, put numbers on 'em and charge admission." — Local wisdom, Port Douglas

What started as a gloriously dumb idea has become Port Douglas' most beloved nightly tradition: five nights a week, under the tropical stars, MC Nicky G pits toad against toad in a 45-minute comedy spectacular that's somehow landed on national news.

Bring the kids. Bring Grandma. Bring your inhibitions — you won't need them.

Your Evening, Decoded

How a Night at the Races Works

Deceptively simple. Toads in a bucket. A circle on the ground. The toad that hops furthest from the centre wins. What could go wrong? Everything. Everything goes wrong. That's the point.

🍕

Step 01

Arrive & Eat

Book dinner at Chilly's Pizza & Trattoria. Fuel up on excellent Italian before the madness begins.

🪣

Step 02

Meet Your Toad

MC Nicky G introduces the lineup. Pick your favourite. Name them. Form an emotional attachment you will regret.

📣

Step 03

Race!

Toads released from the centre bucket. Bedlam ensues. The crowd goes feral. Children scream. Adults scream louder.

🏆

Step 04

Glory (or Grief)

A winner is crowned. Nicky G delivers the eulogy for the losers. You leave having experienced something uniquely Australian.

Hall of Fame

Meet the Athletes

Each toad has a name, a personality, and absolutely no interest in racing. That's what makes it beautiful.
